Forgiveness / Mercy

HOW IMPORTANT IS FORGIVENESS?

To BOTH

(Offender & Offended)

DAILY

Please be sure to read about what **Mercy** has to do with forgiving others, later in this article!

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Matthew 6:12

And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
Luke 11:4

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any:
that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

But if ye do not forgive,
neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Mark 11:25-26

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 6:14-15

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 4:32

Forbearing one another,
and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any:
even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Colossians 3:13

Re: Our Enemies

Be ye therefore merciful,
as your Father also is merciful.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned:
forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Luke 6:36,37 KJV

Re: Our Brothers/Brethren

Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
Luke 17:3‭-‬4 KJV

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord,
how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Matthew 18:21-22

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way;
first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Matthew 5:23-24

We are to make ‘right’ anything that we have done or said, as much as is possible.

Make ‘right’. Whether by deed or word, or both.

Apologize, set things aright.

To ignore this step, is a stumbling block to another.

Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
Matthew 18:7 KJV

So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you,
if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Matthew 18:35 KJV

Don’t Take Offense

And then shall many be offended,
and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
Matthew 24:10 KJV

“…BE offended…”

It’s up to each person if they choose to TAKE Offense.

Don’t be Offended!

Don’t Offend!

If God’s Word gives offense, that’s between them & God.

“…and shall betray one another…”

Interestingly, ‘BETRAYAL’ is done by someone we care for, feel a ‘connection’ with, etc.

*Friends, Family, *Brethren, etc. [*or who we thought were]

That’s why it hurts so much.

BETRAYAL:

Betrayal is the breaking or violation of a presumptive contract, trust, or confidence that produces moral and psychological conflict within a relationship amongst individuals, between organizations or between individuals and organizations.

But the end of all things is at hand:
be ye therefore sober,
and watch unto prayer.

And above all things
have fervent charity among yourselves:
for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

1 Peter 4:7-8 KJV

**Mercy**

So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him,
and comfort him,
lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

2 Corinthians 2:7-8 KJV

For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

2 Corinthians 2:9-10

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us:
for we are not ignorant of his devices.

2 Corinthians 2:11 KJV

Be ye angry, and sin not:
let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Neither give place to the devil.

Ephesians 4:26-27

This is my commandment,
That ye love one another,
as I have loved you.

Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:12-13 KJV

“Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do.” ~ Jesus Christ
(Luke 23:34)

“Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.” ~ Stephen
(Acts 7:60)

“I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.” ~ Paul

(2 Timothy 4:16)

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise,
as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward,
not willing that any should perish,
but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 KJV

#Mercy

When the Righteous call out to God,
God hears their prayers.

Jesus said;

But I say unto you,
Love your enemies,
bless them that curse you,
do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you,
and persecute you;

Matthew 5:44 KJV

Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do.

And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Luke 23:34 ~ Jesus Christ

And [Stephen] said,

Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

And cast him out of the city,
and stoned him:

and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet,
whose name was Saul.

Acts 7:56-58 KJV

And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying,

Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down,
and cried with a loud voice,

Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.

And when he had said this,
he fell asleep.

Acts 7:59-60 KJV ~ Stephen

Did you catch that?

… stoned him:

and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet,
whose name was Saul.

(Acts 7:58)

At my first answer no man stood with me,
but all men forsook me:

I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

2 Timothy 4:16 KJV ~ Paul {Previously called Saul}

Then said Jesus, “Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do.” That was for all who crucified him. Including you and me.

Why did Jesus, Stephen, and Paul; in the grips of impending death,

make THAT their Last Prayer??

To forgive them and lay it not to their charge?

Forgiveness
Mercy
Grace
Love

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

For as ye in times past have not believed God,
yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

Even so have these also now not believed,
that through your mercy
they also may obtain mercy.

Romans 11:29-31 KJV

But love ye your enemies,
and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again;
and your reward shall be great,
and ye shall be the children of the Highest:
for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Be ye therefore merciful,
as your Father also is merciful.

Luke 6:35-36

Amen.

  1. Reblogged this on End Time Revelations and commented:
“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This statement has a nice rhyme but it couldn’t be further from the truth! These next three verses prove that words do hurt.

James 3:2 (KJV) For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

James 3:5-6 (KJV) 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

It’s easy to hurt feelings with words, but is it easy to forgive? No, it’s not easy, but if we will forgive those words that break our spiritual bones. Those broken spiritual bones will heal.

  2. IMPERATIVE CONFUSION? BY STEVE FINNELL

Those who deny that water baptism is essential for salvation seem to never exhaust there examples of faulty reasoning.

Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (NKJV)

Faulty reasoning of the “faith only” proponents explain that since Mark 16:16 does not say he who is not baptized will be condemned, then immersion in water is not required in order to be saved.

Verses of Scripture do not require that the consequences of ignoring an imperative statement be validated by being included in every verse. Common understanding of language is the only requirement.

If a doctor tells a person if they receive a liver transplant they will live, he does not need to tell that person if they refuse the transplant they will die. Imperatives are understood.

A BIBLICAL IMPERATIVE: Acts 16:25-34 ….30 And he brought them out and said”Sirs, what must I do to be saved?“31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (NKJV)

Paul and Silas did not have to tell the jailer he would lost if he did not believe. Imperatives are understood.

Believing on the Lord Jesus Christ is an understood imperative in order to be saved.

Being baptized in water is an understood imperative in order to be saved.

    HOMOPHOBIA, REALLY? BY STEVE FINNELL

Phobia Defined: Irrational fear of something.

Secularist say calling homosexual acts sinful is an example of homophobia.

Would identifying drunkenness, as sin, be an example of drunkaphobia?

Is it adultereraphobic to call sleeping with someone other than your spouse sinful?

Is someone who condemns theft as sinful a thiefaphobic?

1 Corinthians 6:6-11…..9…will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God….(NKJV)

God says unrepentant sinful Christians will not inherit the kingdom of God. Does that make God a sinaphobic?

God does not fear, however, men should fear God.(Luke 12:5 “But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes I say to you, fear Him! (NKJV)

Fearing God is not a phobia!

ONLY GOD FORGIVES SINS BY STEVE FINNELL

Contrary to what men believe, only God can forgive the sins that have been committed against Him. Joseph Smith nor Brigham Young can forgive sins. Catholic priests cannot forgive sins. Lutheran ministers cannot forgive sins. There are no men dead or alive who can forgive the sins that men commit against God.

    ONLY GOD FORGIVES SINS!

Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.

    ONLY GOD FORGIVES SINS!

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity…

Only God pardons iniquity. Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Catholic priests, nor Lutheran ministers have the authority to pardon iniquity.

    Daniel 9:98 To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against Him;

Mankind has rebelled against God and He alone can grant forgiveness.

THE SCRIBES UNDERSTOOD ONLY GOD COULD FORGIVE SINS!

Mark 2:6-11..the scribes…7…He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone? ….10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.”

The problem with scribes was they did not realize that Jesus was God in the flesh. Joesph Smith, Brigham Young, Catholic priests, Lutheran ministers, nor any other men, are or were, God in the flesh.

DID JESUS GRANT THE APOSTLES THE AUTHORITY TO FORGIVE SINS? NO HE DID NOT.

Acts 8:18-22 ….20 But Peter said to him….22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.

The apostle Peter did not grant forgiveness to Simon, he told Simon to pray to God for forgiveness. Note, Simon was already a Christian.

    THE PROOF TEXT.

John 20:19-23 ….23 If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.“

Jesus was not giving Peter and the rest of the apostles the power to grant forgiveness of sins to men on an individual bases, Jesus was not ordaining them as priests with that power. Jesus was giving Peter and the apostles the authority to proclaim the terms for forgiveness of sins. Peter and the apostles did just that on the day of Pentecost. (Acts 2:22-41…36 Therefore let the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified. 37…Peter and the rest of the apostles….38 Peter said to them , “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.)

Peter and the apostles did not forgive sins on the Day of Pentecost nor on any subsequent day. They declare God’s terms for pardon.

    FAITH: John 3:16

    REPENTANCE: Acts 2:38

    CONFESSION: Romans 10:9-10

    WATER BAPTISM: Acts 2:38

Christians are not asked to confess to Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Catholic priests, Lutheran ministers, nor any other men, in order to have their sins against God forgiven!

Christians are to confess their sins to God in order to receive forgiveness. (1 John 1:5-9 ….God is light… 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness.)

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between men, the man Christ Jesus,

The only priest standing between men and God is the high priest, Jesus Christ.

NOTE: Confessing sins and asking God for forgiveness is only available to Christians. Non-Christians must have FAITH, REPENT, CONFESS JESUS AS LORD, BELIEVE IN HIS RESURRECTION AND BE BAPTIZED IN WATER IN ORDER TO THEIR SINS FORGIVEN.

    ONLY GOD FORGIVES SINS!

    SAINTHOOD QUALIFICATIONS BY STEVE FINNELL

Who are the saints of God? God’s saints are those who are under His covenant. A covenant is an agreement between God and mankind.

ALL MEN WHO ARE OR WERE UNDER GOD’S COVENANT ARE SAINTS.

Psalm 50:5 “Gather My saints together to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” (NKJV)

ALL OF GOD’S PEOPLE ARE SAINTS.

Deuteronomy 33:1-3 Now this is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. 2. And he said: “The Lord came from Sinai, And dawn on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came with ten thousand saints; From His right hand Came a fiery law for them. 3 Yes, He loves the people; All His saints are in Your hands; They sit down at Your feet; Everyone receives Your words.(NKJV)

Yes, those under under the old covenant were saints of God. The people under the old covenant were saints and they did not have to be placed in a canon of saints and then enacted by the ecclesiastical rule of church authority and approved by Moses.

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. (NKJV)

All men in God’s churches are saints. The body of Christ are God’s saints; one and all.

Ephesians 3:8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ. (NKJV)

The apostle Paul did not consider himself a candidate for beatification. Why not, because there is no such title of “Super Saint” found in Scripture. Paul said he was the least of saints.

If there was a class of God like “Super Saints” that men could worship, by petitioning them through prayer, the apostle Paul certainly would have qualified. GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD, HE DOES WANT MEN TO WORSHIP ANY SAINT, DEAD OR ALIVE, BY PRAYING TO THEM.

Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—(NKJV)

These Christians were not praying for dead saints. These were live saints praying for other live saints. Saints are all members of the body of Christ; nothing more and nothing less.

There are no Scriptures that mention a beatification of saints, through a canonical process; thereby turning a selected few into “SUPER SAINTS.“

    THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR SAINTHOOD!

The qualification for sainthood under the new covenant are:

    A. FAITH: John 3:16

    B. CONFESSION: Romans 10:9-10

    C. REPENTANCE: Acts 3:19, Acts 2:38

    D. WATER BAPTISM Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:20-21

When you come up out of the watery grave of baptism you are saved, you are a child of God, you are a member of the Lord’s church, your are part of the body of Christ, you have been clothed with Christ, you have received the gift of the Holy Spirit, your sins have been forgiven, you are a member of the church of Christ, you have been raised to walk in a new life, you have been washed by the blood of Jesus, you are in the kingdom of God here on earth. YOU ARE A SAINT!

BIBLE TRANSLATIONS OF GALATIANS 3:27 by Steve Finnell

Should the Bible be the source for faith and practice? Or should denominational creeds be used as God’s truth?

    GALATIANS 3:27

    New American Standard Bible
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
    King James Version
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
    A Conservative Version
For as many as were immersed into Christ have put on Christ.
    An Understandable Version
For all of you who were immersed into [a relationship with] Christ have been clothed with Him [i.e., His life].
    Anderson New Testament
for as many of you as have been immersed into Christ, have put on Christ.
    Julia Smith Translation
For as many of you as were immersed into Christ have put on Christ.
    The Emphasized Bible
For ye, as many as, into Christ, have been immersed, have put Christ, on:
    Worrell New Testament
for as many of you as were immersed into Christ, did put on Christ.

I know of no Bible that translates Galatians 3:27 as, sprinkled or poured into Christ.

You can trust the Scriptures or you can trust men. Make a choice.

THE DEFINITION AND PURPOSE OF WATER BAPTISM BY STEVE FINNELL

What is the definition and the purpose of water baptism under the New Covenant?

    THE DEFINITION?

Baptism as defined in the Scriptures.

Acts 8:36 And, as they went on their way they came to a certain water; and the eunuch said, Look, here is water; what is there to hinder me from being immersed? (Ref: The Better Version of The New Testament by Chester Estes)

The definition of baptism is to be immersed in water.

Acts 8:36 As they went along the road they came to some water;and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” (Ref: NASB)

The definition of water baptism under the New Covenant is immersion in water.

Romans 6:4 We were, therefore, buried with him by immersion into that death; that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, thus we also should walk in newness of life. (Ref: TBVOTNT by Chester Estes)

In water baptism, believers in Christ are buried by immersion in water. This symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. (Ref: NASB)

To be buried through baptism makes it clear that water baptism is immersion. Men cannot be buried under a sprinkle or by having water poured over them.

Colossians 2:12 Having been buried with him by immersion, by which also you were raised up with him, through the belief of the strong working of God, who raised him from the dead. (Ref: TBVOTNT by Chester Estes)

Water baptism is a burial by immersion.

Colossians 2:12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. (Ref: NASB)

Baptism is a burial by immersion.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF WATER BAPTISM?

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Let each one of you repent and be immersed, in the name of Jesus Christ, in order to the remission of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Ref: The Better Version Of The New Testament by Chester Estes)

One purpose of water baptism is in order to have sin forgiven.

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Ref: NASB)

A reason to be baptized in water is so your sins may be forgiven.

Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have been immersed into Christ, have put on Christ. (Ref: TBVOTNT by Chester Estes)

One purpose of water baptism is to put on Christ.

Galatians 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Ref: NASB)

A purpose for water baptism is so men can be clothed with Christ.

Mark 16:16 He who has believed, and has been immersed, will be saved….. (Ref: TBVOTNT by Chester Estes)

A purpose of water baptism is in order to be saved.

Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved…. (Ref: NASB)

One reason to be baptized in water is so that you may be saved from the punishment of your sins.

YES, WATER BAPTISM (IMMERSION IN WATER) IS ESSENTIAL TO BE SAVED.

IS JESUS THE AUTHORITY IN HIS CHURCH? BY STEVE FINNELL

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (NASB)

Does Jesus have the authority to sanctify the church by cleansing her by the washing of water with the word? It would seem many deny that Jesus has the power to sanctify the church.

Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.(NASB)

Ephesians 5:26 He did this to make her holy by washing her in a bath of water with the word.( CEB)

Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify it, cleansing by the laver of water in the word of life:(DRA)

Ephesians 5:26 to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God’s Word; (TLB)

When believers in Christ are baptized in water it is Jesus that sanctifies them and makes them clean. It is not a good work of the believers.

It is beyond comprehension that men try to limit the authority of Jesus by denying that He has the power to make men holy by washing them in water with the word of God.

There are many who deny the water baptism is essential to becoming holy and blameless. Some men are honestly ignorant, but is that a valid excuse after they have read the truth as written in their Bible.

    Ephesians 5:26
    Acts 2:38
    Mark 16:16
    Act 22:16
    Colossians 2:12-13
    Romans 6:3-7
    1 Peter 3:21
    Galatians 3:27
    John 3:5

Does Jesus have the authority to sanctify the church using water baptism according to God’s word? YES.

You can trust your local preacher, Bible commentaries, CHURCH CREED BOOKS or other uninspired books written by men,but as for me I will trust Jesus.

Vol. 32 No. 1 January 2019 George L. Faull, Editor
    The Sinner’s Prayer
    –By George L. Faull
    INTRODUCTION:
“Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”
The following is from Frank Viola and George Barna (Pagan Christianity, Tydale House) pages 189-190
“In our day, the “sinner’s prayer” has replaced the role of water baptism as the initial confession of faith. Unbelievers are told, ‘Say this prayer after me, accept Jesus as your personal Savior, and you will be saved.’ But nowhere in all the New Testament do we find any person being led to the Lord by a sinner’s prayer. And there is not the faintest whisper in the Bible about a ‘personal’ Savior. Instead, unbelievers in the first century were led to Jesus Christ by being taken to the waters of baptism. Put another way, water baptism was the sinner’s prayer in century one! Baptism accompanied the acceptance of the Gospel.
For example, when Lydia heard Paul preach the Gospel, she believed and was immediately baptized with her household (Acts 16:14-15). In the same way, when Paul led the Philippian Jailer and his household to
the Lord, they were immediately baptized (Acts 16:30-33). This was the New Testament pattern (see also Acts 2:41; 8:12, 35-37).
Baptism marked a complete break with the past and a full entrance into Christ and His Church, Baptism was simultaneously an act of faith as well as an expression of faith.”
“As stated earlier, the sinner’s prayer eventually replaced the biblical role of water baptism. Though it is touted as gospel today, this prayer developed only recently. D. L. Moody was the first to employ it. Moody used this ‘model’ for prayer when training his evangelistic coworkers. But it did not reach popular usage until the 1950’s with Billy Graham’s ‘Peace with God’ tract and later with Campus Crusade for Christ’s ‘Four Spiritual Laws’.”
Now notice this was not written by me (George L. Faull). The above quotes come from mainline denominations.
It is only fair to say some trace the prayer of this nature to John Bunyan in 1698 in “Pilgrim’s Progress”.
The way it’s done today evolved from the mourners’ seat (Wheellock), the anxious seat (Charles Finney), the inquiry room (Dwight Moody, R. A. Torrey) and the 3 great Baptists named, “Bill”; Bill Sunday (Sawdust Trail), Billy Graham (Altar call), Bill Bright (Sinner’s prayer).
Even James Kennedy used the method as most radio and TV
evangelists do. All were rooted in “faith only” and Calvinist doctrine, which claims that God elected men to salvation. Men sought salvation by “praying through”. It offers a false security and repentance is seldom even mentioned, if ever.
On the internet, Google “The Sinner’s Prayer” and see how many speak against the sinner’s prayer and prayerfully consider the disuse of this false plan of salvation.
I remember in the fifties the following camp song: “Into my heart, into my heart, come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Come in today, come in to stay, come into my heart, Lord Jesus.”
    PROPOSITION:
The Scriptural goal is to get people to obey the Word of God and come INTO Christ, not Christ INTO our hearts! The first item is in the Bible, the second is man-made.
FIRST – The Apostle Paul begins each of his epistles to the churches speaking about being “in Christ”.
In fact, the first mention of “in Christ” is what that epistle is about.
Romans: Christ our Redeemer. “Redemption in Christ” (3:24).
I Corinthians: Christ our Sanctifier. “Sanctification in Christ” (1:2).
II Corinthians: Christ our Victor. “Triumphing in Christ” (2:4).

Galatians: Christ our Liberator. “Liberty in Christ” (2:3). “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (3:27)
Ephesians: Christ our All. “Spiritual blessings in Heavenly places in Christ” (1:3).
Philippians: Christ our Joy. “That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Christ” (1:26).
Colossians: Christ our Perfecter. “Complete in Him” (1:28).
I Thessalonians: Christ our Hope. “Patience of hope in Christ” (1 :3).
II Thessalonians: Christ our Coming Glory. “That Christ may be glorified in you and you in Him” (1:12).
SECOND – In addition to these above advantages, let’s name a few other important things about being “in Christ”:
Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 8:2, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 8:39, “Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
1 Corinthians 1:30, “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:”
1 Corinthians 15:22, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 2:14, “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.”
Ephesians 2:6, “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:”
Ephesians 2:10, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:13, “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”
Ephesians 3:6, “That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:”
1 Thessalonians 4:16, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:”
THIRD – Though the Bible does not give the sinners’ prayer, it does tell us how to get “into Christ”:
Romans 6:3-5, “3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:”
Galatians 3:27, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
Acts 2:38-41, “38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of
the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
Acts 8:16, “(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)”
Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in (the Greek says “into” the name…) the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
1 Corinthians 12:13, “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”
As seen from the Scriptures above, if we are baptized “into” (eis) Christ, His death, His Name, His body, we can have assurance for all of the promises spoken of above are “in Christ”.
2 Corinthians 1:20, “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”
And if we be “in Christ”, we are born again: 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Galatians 6:15, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.”
On the other hand, those who only pray the sinner’s prayer have none of these advantages or promises as those who have been baptized “into Christ”.

The only record we have of Jesus coming into anyone’s heart, was Lydia, the seller of purple, whom the Lord opened her heart. Acts 16:14- 15, “14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. 15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.”
How did the Lord open her heart? She heard and attended the things which were spoken of Paul and when she was baptized and her household, she got involved in His work.
FOURTH – Saving faith comes by hearing and obeying the Word of God.
We preachers must preach the Word for success.
There is no faith without hearing the Word. Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
No one is begotten, or born again, without the Word. The Word is God’s semen. 1 Peter 1:23, “23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
If there is no Word, there is no milk. 1 Peter 2:2, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”
If no Word, there is no meat for maturing. Hebrews 5:12-14,” 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full
age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
1 Corinthians 3:1-2, “1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.”
If there is no Word, there is no revelation for knowledge.
1 Corinthians 2:14-16, “14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
(My thoughts are not your thoughts.) Inspiration, illumination, and revelation.
If there is no Word, there is no truth to set men free. John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
If there is no Word, there is no sanctification to make men holy. John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
If there is no Word, there is no revelation so men will not perish. Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
If there is no Word, there is no light, but darkness. Psalms 119:105, 130, “105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
If there is no Word, there is no faith to please God. Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
If there is no Word preached there is no wisdom unto salvation. 2 Timothy 3:15, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
If there is no Word, there is no sword to fight the good fight. Ephesians 6:17, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
The Word is a defensive and offensive sword.
If there is no Word, there is no harvest for the seed to be planted. Parable of soil – Matthew 13.
If there is no Word, there is no sure word of prophecy so no dawning of the Day Star in our hearts. 2 Peter 1:19, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:”
If there is no Word, there is no mirror to show our sinfulness or how not to dress before the mirror of the world. James 1:23-25, “23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
    CONCLUSION:
So, my proposition is proven that God wants us to let the Word to be not only heard but obeyed so that we come “INTO” Christ, not just a prayer for Him to come into our hearts.
Do not give a false hope or security to a sincere seeker. Get them to obey from their heart the form of doctrine. Romans 6:17, “But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.”

SCRIPTURES THAT OFFEND BY STEVE FINNELL

    1. Romans 16:16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you. (NKJV)

The name church of Christ offends people enough, that some churches remove that name from from their building, they do not want to be identified as a church of Christ.

    2. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one on you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)

Acts 2:38 offends those who deny water baptism is in order to the forgiveness of sins.

    3. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (NKJV)

John 14:6 offends believers in Christ who believe in universal salvation. Some believe it is arrogant to assert Jesus is the only way to heaven.

    4. Genesis 1:1-31…….31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good . So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (NKJV)

Genesis 1:1-31 offends those who believe in theistic evolution or claim it is too difficult to understand that God created the heaven and earth in six days, in a twenty four hour day.

    5. Galatians 5:4You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law, you have fallen from grace. (NKJV)

Galatians 5:4 offends men who teach one in grace always in grace.
